About this photograph :
Hereford at sun-down
Cally Whitham photographs nature, not as it is but as it should be. This romantic vision of reality allows her to give aesthetic value to trivial subjects. Thus she photographs farm animals. In the manner of other artists, mostly painters, Whitham portrays cows and other animals including geese and cockerels. Reviving the codes of great classical painting, the photographer magnifies the rural world like the Barbizon school painters, Rosa Bonheur, Chardin and Julien Dupré.
